Rip Currents

Have you ever found yourself getting dragged out to sea from a strong current?. That is caused by a rip current. In a rip people panic but that is the least best thing to do. To find out how to identify a rip and how to get out of one carry on reading.

If you're on a beach the way to identify a rip current in the water is that you will see a calm spot in the waves. Another feature is the difference in the color of the water and that is from the color of the sand. So if the sand is black the water will be dark and if the sand is light then then the color of the water will be lighter. A channel of churning and chopping water is another indication of a rip current and a line of foam, seaweed or debris moving steadily out to sea.

When getting dragged out by a strong current there are important things to remember. Firstly don't try fighting it because you will get tired but not the water. Secondly you see if you can touch the sand and if you can’t then just lie flat on your back and make a starfish. When in a rip you let it take you out because it will end at the last breaking wave. Then swim to the side and swim back in with the waves. Another thing you try to do is put your hand up high into the air.

I really hope these can help you out one day and maybe save your life.

Maths Problem Tukutuku Panels

The 10th one for this will be 32
This is the chart from 1-10
For each and every one that you go on
to you just add 1 like if its 2 for the next
    one you will add 3

Maths Problem Cup Capers

Y = Yellow Cups           In both of the yellow cups there will be 3
B = Blue Cup                 and in the blue cup the there will be 6
First i split the 12 in half because blue is twice as many as yellow so then i split one of the 6's in half so           then there is now two 3's and one 6 so the 3's will go in to the yellow cups and the 6 will go in the blue           cup.

Kahurangi Dance Crew

On one special day the Kahurangi dance crew came to Pt England school for a performance. When they got here there were only 5 of them that came 2 girl and 3 boys. Our time for the performance was after morning tea.

Our time came and the bell just rang for the end of morning tea Miss Tito told us to line up outside the hall but instead we all came back to class. When we got back class we came inside and Miss Squires told up to line up outside. After we lined up we started walking to the hall when we got into the hall we all sat down .

When we were silent one of the dancers walked out and introduced herself and when she finished she said a loud, "Kia ora!" She started to tell us a little story about Papatuanuku and Ranginui the earth mother and sky father. When she finished telling us the little story they started performing.

Suddenly 2 of the boys grabbed a taiaha and they started doing actions with the taiaha. The group finished their first performance and when they finished they got 3 boys from the crowd of team 4-5 and the 3 boys that they got were Korobeau, Aur
i and Mr Goodwyn. The first things they had to do with the taiaha was to do the same thing that Jordan was doing, and the finale action that they had to do was the hardest.

Soccer With Sophia

On Monday 28th we have soccer with Sophia. Sophia comes from the country of Argentina and Argentina lost the 2014 Fifa world cup Brazil to Germany. Soccer is a really common game in Argentina. On the first day sophia said to us “Lets make a deal” and we replied with “yes” Then she said “the deal is if I teach you how to play soccer you guys have to teach me how to speak more English?” and we said “sure”.

Our first day we had a little warm up. The warm up was like a game most of the class got given a bib to run around. The people that didn't have a bib had to try getting a bib from the people that had one. The first time we did it we could only have one bib. When we done it the second time we could have more then one.

We had a little game of soccer, Sophia put us in to two teams. When we got put in to our teams we got numbered from 1-11 and in our team one of us had to go twice. I was in the opposite team of my friend and I had to vs him. The first time I had a turn I was close to the goal but then he kicked my leg and I fell over. The last time we done it she called out all the numbers so it was team vs team and no one won because the ball went out.

Before we left we all said our thank you for the wonderful time that we had with Sophia. After that it was time for us to go when Miss Squires left with the rest of the class some of the boys stayed behind and asked her some questions. The questions was about where she came from and that.

Echolocation

Echolocation, also called bio sonar that is used by several kinds of animals. Echolocating animals emits calls out that ricochets back to to the animal now it knows how big and how far the object is. Echolocation is used for navigation and for hunting in various environments. Some blind people may have learnt how to use echolocation by either using a clicking device or making sound by mouth. Bats,  mammals, , a few birds, dolphins and toothed whales use echolocation. Some of the bats make the sound through their noses.

There was a teenage boy named Ben that had learnt how to use echolocation by making a clicking sound from his mouth. One day Ben and his mum were driving past a big building when Ben said to his mum "Mum can you see that big building out there?" His mum replied "Can you see that big building out there?". Ben had noticed that the sound in the car had changed when they went past the big building. Now Ben knows how to ride a bike and he knows how to shoot a ball in a hoop.

So in conclusion Echolocation is used by animals, marine mammals and some humans to locate objects in their surroundings. Echolocation is like a replacing eyes for people that are blind.

Emily overheard her sister Laura on the phone saying that they were going to the mall. Emily, ran into Laura’s room saying “Can I come? Can I come?”
Laura said  “NO you're too young you don’t know what you’re doing.” Suddenly Emily went storming out swearing at her and slammed the door on Laura's face. She locked herself in her room and started punching holes in the wall kicking things, around and then left, to calm down.Laura thought “Far man that girl is really spoilt and she wants to come with me?”

Emily felt nervous about asking to go to the mall. Emilys heart was pounding as she went in to Laura room her legs started wobbling as she was so nervous she felt like she was gonna pee her pants and when Emily asked to go to the mall with Laura she said “sure i'll take you out for the day”

Week 9 Show Not Tell

Mary started jumping up and down because her sister Jan was taking her to the mall. Jan was waiting inside her car while mary was looking for some fresh clothes in a bunch of dirty clothes.
It took about half an hour for mary just to get change by then Jan got very impatient with Mary. Jan started frowning and said “How long is that girl gonna be?”if Mary had came out but every time Jan looked out she wasn’t coming. Jan got very very angry, then started beeping the horn and started shouting at her to hurry up.

Mary was nervous to go to the mall with Jan, when she asked she said “Jan can I please come with you to the mall? As she asked Mary, Jans legs started shaking because she was so nervous. She was so nervous but when she heard a yes from Mary she just shocked with excitement started jumping up and down until she ran out of breath to be happy anymore. When they got into the car she kept on saying thank you over and over again until they reached the mall.

Fiafia Night

On Wednesday the 9th of April we had our school fia fia. When I got to school the smell of fresh  delicious food shot straight up my nose. There  were about 3 and a half thousand people there. “Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring”rang the bell to tell us that we had to go to our changing rooms to get changed and get ready. When I got to the library I saw the people that were in the kapa haka junior and in the kapa haka senior groups.  The groups that I was in was senior kapa haka and senior hip hop.

The feeling just before walking out onto the stage. It feels like theres butterflies flying around in my stomach. As I walk out on to the stage all I can see is people sitting and standing in the crowd. As we finish our first song the crowd starts clapping and then we finish our performance and a little group of people get up and start doing a haka.

After the kapa haka senior group finished the kapa haka junior had their  performance. When the junior kapa haka group was performing I had to quickly run back to the library and get changed and get ready for my senior hip hop group because the Bollywood group was just before the senior hip hop.

When the Bollywood finished it was my turn again as the music started playing the senior hip hop group started walking on to the stage saying sup to each other then it began we started dancing then we had to run to the back of the minions and then we started dancing to happy.

Then the rest of the groups finished it was time to go back to the changing rooms. My two favourite groups was the senior samoan and jump jam.
